Posion Overview:
Covenant’s current priority is to bring young people in our city to know Christ as Lord. We are commied to invesng in the staff and budget at the highest level to build a thriving youth program. The Associate Pastor for Youth and Families (“AP”) will serve as the “department head” of our ministries to young people with the following dues:
● Lead Covenant’s 5-year vision to grow the number of youth and children in weekly programming.
● Innovate fresh ways to connect young people to the gospel.
● Prepare programming for the weekly discipleship programs for youth.
● Supervise Director of Children’s Ministry for weekly programs for children.
● Equip youth to serve through mission projects & leadership opportunies.
● Build relaonships with students inside & outside church through contact work.
● Challenge youth to grow in faith and share the gospel through evangelism.
● Train team of adult volunteers; ensure they feel equipped and valued.
● Lead major events including mission trips, Youth Sunday, retreats, etc.
● Foster a high level of collaboraon with church staff and leadership.
● Demonstrate excellence in documentaon and communicaon (aendance database, cloud-based
management soware, calendar, trip forms, child safety policy, phone, text, email)
● Occasional preaching & pastoral care visits.
● Culvate a personal relaonship with Jesus and maintain healthy relaonships with family and friends.
Addionally, the AP is responsible for upholding Biblical priories and core values of Covenant. The AP should present a growing personal relaonship with Christ and will be called to adhere to and encompass the qualies and characteriscs required of Covenant employees, as defined by the Staff Handbook.
Desired Qualies and Responsibilies:
We have very ambious goals to more than double the size of our Youth Group within 36 months. The Youth Pastor will need to be very focused and disciplined to achieve this goal, acng like a missionary to the young people and families in our church and in the surrounding neighborhood. It will require excellent leadership, creavity, and courage. The ideal candidate will be highly relaonal and highly organized. They should be able to build relaonships with both students and with adult volunteers and keep track of the details in communicang with other staff and teammates. They should also have an entrepreneurial vision, able to try new things to reach more kids and grow God’s kingdom.
Educaon and Denominaon:
● Bachelor’s required, MDiv Preferred.
● Covenant is a conservave evangelical church within the PC(USA), affiliated with the Fellowship
Community of Presbyterians. The AP can be of any denominaon but should be willing to transfer to the PC(USA) upon hire.
