Position Summary: The Volunteer and Development Coordinator supports Atlanta Habitat’s mission and the organization’s development and volunteer engagement strategy, which includes recruiting, training, retaining, recognizing, and reporting on individual and group volunteers throughout the organization. Atlanta Habitat volunteers engage in construction, the ReStore, Family Services, the warehouse and office.

 

Responsibilities:

Volunteers

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, retention, and placement to meet the volunteer needs of the organization.
  • Working primarily with Atlanta Habitat’s individual volunteers with the exception of Volunteer Skilled Supervisors, Wall-Building Supervisors, and Master Gardeners.
  • Recruit and schedule individual volunteers for builds, the ReStore, and other program areas as needed. Lead ReStore volunteer group efforts including recruitment and scheduling Facilitate ReStore and Volunteer Team dual monthly meeting.
  • Coordinate catch-up group recruitment, scheduling and lunch arrangements.
  • Coordinate occasional remote volunteering opportunities.
  • Work with the volunteer management team and staff members throughout the organization to identify and meet volunteer needs periodically reviewing, updating and creating new volunteer positions when appropriate. Keep all individual volunteer position descriptions current across all access points. Share responsibility in leading monthly volunteer orientation sessions. Oversee administration of newly created volunteer recognition and rewards program.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the on-line volunteer registration system (VolunteerHub). Support the Volunteer and Development Specialist in planning and executing the annual volunteer appreciation event.
  • Attend volunteer outreach events at schools and corporations. Visit construction sites regularly to evaluate non-sponsor and sponsor volunteer experience, promote Atlanta Habitat, and support house dedications and build starts. Work with construction staff to fulfill daily tasks needed to ensure a successful volunteer build day: prepare volunteer sign-in sheets, order volunteer supplies, fill snack boxes. Ensure volunteer hours are properly tracked in the volunteer management system. Manage community service volunteer program, including application processing and distribution of community service letters.

Development

  • Provide support and assistance with donor recognition events and other special events and projects.
  • Provide support and assistance with development services as needed.

Other

  • Work with the Resource Development team to help ensure department meets all goals. Participate in Development Department team meetings.
  • Act as the primary liaison with Family Services for Sweat Equity Volunteers. Create and draft monthly volunteer e-newsletter. Perform other duties as assigned

Job Conditions:

  • The position is full-time. Office hours are typically 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional 7:00 am to 3:30 pm hours, Saturday. Some additional evening and weekend work is required, though not to exceed 40 hours. Flexing work hours may be discussed with the Partner Engagement Team Director.
  • This position is classified as exempt. The Volunteer and Development Coordinator reports to the Partner Engagement Team Director and is a member of the Resource Development Team. This position is subject to periodic DMV checks for driving record and valid driver’s license. This position involves some driving around the Metro Atlanta area. A reliable vehicle and proof of insurance is required. This position is subject to a criminal and credit background check and drug and alcohol testing. Requirements:

Education/Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred fields of study include business, non-profit management, human resources, public relations/communications/marketing or similar fields.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of work experience. Previous nonprofit work experience, including volunteer management, preferred. Experience in sales, public relations, marketing, fundraising, or special events is desirable.

Skills

  • Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook). Database management skills are necessary. Experience with volunteer management tools and Salesforce preferred. Experience with MailChimp, Pardot, and Canva a plus.
  • Able to work well with a diverse group of staff members, volunteers, donors, and community leaders. Strong public speaking skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Excellent customer service skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Able to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail. Must be flexible, able to take initiative, and work independently.
