Job Description

The summer youth ministry intern program is designed to help those interested in youth ministry grow in their faith, cultivate vocational discernment, engage in personal development, and hone in on their unique talents. Interns will gain logistical knowledge in a ministry setting, hands on experience in leading missional opportunities, learning how to walk alongside students, and offering guidance and creating spaces for God to move. While there is a framework for this internship, the candidate will have a large say in what they want to accomplish from this internship. A value of this program is diversity in voice and experience.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (25-30 HOURS PER WEEK DEPENDING ON THE WEEK)

• Assist in organizing and teaching Summer Youth Sunday School programming on Sunday mornings

• Organize and lead 1-2 local mission opportunities throughout the summer

• Assist in Vacation Bible School (June 23-27)

• Organize and assist in summer youth ministry outings; leading where needed

• Assist in at least one of two mission trips JCUMC offers youth (MS June 15-19) (HS July 6-12)

• Create an active and effective social media plan that can be maintained by Youth Pastor and Youth Leadership Team

• Attend 11am traditional worship on Sunday mornings, assisting when needed

• Weekly 1 on 1 meeting with Pastor of Youth and College Ministry

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

- Be at least a rising Senior in college. Seminary students preferred.

- Have an interest in youth ministry as a part of vocation

- Practice healthy communication

REQUIREMENTS

- Internship Runs from May 15-August 3rd . Sundays-Thursdays. Vacation worked out before internship starts

- Pass a Background check and Take Safe Sanctuary Course

- Reading List: Sustainable Youth ministry, Youth Ministry 3.0, and The Theological Turn in Youth Ministry

- Have a working knowledge or be willing to learn and teach Wesleyan/UMC Theology
