Job Description

Meet Grace Resurrection Methodist Church:

Located in Marietta (in the heart of vibrant east Cobb County), Georgia, Grace Resurrection is a non-affiliated Methodist Church multigenerational congregation with big potential to grow. The church was formed after shifting away from a more conservative theology when our previous UMC church disaffiliated.

The church offers an inviting and welcoming traditional Sunday morning worship that includes a spiritual sermon, music provided by a dedicated, volunteer choir with a pipe organ, and congregational hymn singing. Multi-generational families can be seen worshiping together and the church is open to all, including those in the LGBTQ community. A nursery is available for infants. In addition, GRMC has a committed discipleship of small groups, three Sunday school classes, and an active men’s and women’s ministry. Local missions to serve our community, congregants, and Welch, W.VA. are underway.

About the Senior Pastor:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to create, shape and grow with a budding and joyful church from the ground floor up. Additionally, he/she will get to build his/her own staff and create programs to attract the next generation of churchgoers. Through collaboration with others, see the fruits of your labor become a reality through honoring Christ.

GRMC is governed by a leadership council of dedicated church members that currently has 15 on the council. In addition, a long-range planning committee (consisting of some leadership council members and additional church members) is helping to provide direction for obtaining a permanent minister, finding a church location that will allow for growth, and meeting the future needs of the church. The church is currently leasing a space in a former Lutheran church. Two retired United Methodist Church ministers are currently serving GRMC in volunteer roles as senior minister and associate minister and would/could serve as role model mentors to help orient the new minister into his/her position.

The Senior Pastor's Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with church leadership to establish and execute a vision and strategic plan for the church’s growth and leadership development.

  • Develop and deliver engaging, biblically-based weekly sermons during worship services (as well as on special occasions and events). In collaboration with the worship team, ensure that services are meaningful and spiritually enriching to the various age groups in the congregation.

  • Oversee the administration and management of church operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and personnel management in the church office.

  • Provide pastoral care for members of the congregation, including visiting the sick, counseling those in need, and offering support during times of crisis.

  • Facilitate and encourage spiritual growth and discipleship through the development and implementation of small group ministries, Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and other educational programs.

  • Mentor, supervise, and support church staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment with robust leadership development.

  • Perform other pastoral duties, including weddings, funerals, baptisms, and dedications, as required.

  • Engage and build relationships within the local community, participating in outreach and mission activities, and collaborating with other organizations to address community needs

  • Model and promote faithful financial stewardship, and encourage giving as a spiritual discipline by teaching the biblical principles of giving.

  • Lead the congregation in acceptance of a diverse and inclusive church environment.
