REPORTS TO: Director, Marketing and Communications with dotted line to VP, Philanthropy          

 

Founded in 1951, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has helped the Atlanta region prosper by consistently solving pressing problems in the region through philanthropy and influence. Now one of the 15 largest community foundations in the country, the Foundation is privileged to have over $1.5 billion in assets with support from over 1,000 donors and institutional partners as Atlanta’s first stop and prime resource for community-based philanthropy. The numbers are telling: In 2023, the Community Foundation distributed $195 million via 12,400 grants to over 3,000 nonprofits; 67% of the grants stayed within the Foundation’s Atlanta-regional service area. Over its history, grants through and by the Foundation have exceeded $2 billion.

 

We seek a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager of Philanthropy Marketing and Communications to join our team. A seasoned marketing and communications strategist, this role will be embedded in the Philanthropy Team and have a keen understanding and proven track record of building an infrastructure for two key areas: donor engagement and professional advisor marketing and communication strategies to inspire philanthropic support for and engagement with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta and its priority areas.

 

As a bridge between the Philanthropy and Marketing and Communications teams, the Senior Manager will partner with members throughout the organization to develop materials and resources for donors and professional advisors that effectively communicate, educate, inspire, cultivate and align with the organization’s overall strategic goals. They must work well independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment as part of a team, have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and must have strong attention to topline strategy and bottom-line detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication strategies for donors and professional advisors to advance our philanthropic goals and initiatives.
  • Lead execution of logistics related to donor communications, including building and sending emails, confirming contact lists are prepared, managing review processes with multiple reviewers, building surveys and processing submissions.
  • Analyze and measure marketing and communications outcomes to identify and share key learnings to ensure effective efforts. Capable of building, identifying and executing opportunities for message testing or A/B testing in our email communications.
  • Integrate philanthropic and planned giving messaging within the broader Community Foundation marketing and communication framework to ensure consistency and alignment with our organization's vision and values that always elevate the brand.
  • Contribute to brand ideation and planning sessions around the Philanthropy teams’ main goals (providing a meaningful donor experience, learning about donor interests, meeting donors where they are).
  • Skilled in thought leadership and uses it to write and create content for donor stewardship communications. This includes a quarterly email newsletter to donors, donor portal content, thought leadership pieces from different voices and other projects throughout the year.
  • Provide design suggestions and implement ideas for improving the appeal, visibility and impact of all donor and professional advisor marketing and communications deliverables.
  • Drive cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations on best practices in philanthropy marketing and communications.
  • Serve as the primary interface for donor and professional advisor event creation/execution/communications, working collaboratively to align goals and messaging.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in strategic and corporate marketing and communications, with a focus on philanthropy or nonprofit sectors.
  • Must demonstrate skill in thought leadership, marketing, media/earned PR, writing, brand execution, fundraising and corporate comms.
  • Strong Associated Press-style writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Ability to craft compelling narratives and adapt messaging for various audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with donors, including high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, manage multiple projects, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative thinker committed to continuous improvement in philanthropy marketing and communications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact with constituents and other outside contacts with diplomacy.
  • Ability to work independently with creativity and initiative.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with various departments.
  • Strong demonstrated relationship-building, interpersonal communication and customer service skills, including ability to accommodate a high level of interaction with foundation staff, donors, grantees and members of the community.
  • A deep desire to make Atlanta a better place is critical in this role. The candidate must have a deep desire for service to humanity, a keen understanding for equity, and for the role effective marketing and communications plays in leading the region to shared prosperity.
  • Demonstrated experience working in deadline-oriented environments—whether newspapers, public companies, etc., where the communications deliverables such as annual reports, online news, storytelling, etc., was on time and on message.

 

Other:

The Community Foundation operates in a hybrid working environment with staff working in-office three days per week and the opportunity to work two days remote per week if in good standing. 

 

Compensation:         

To be determined based upon experience and qualifications. This position is currently being benchmarked with the anticipated salary range of $95,000-$105,000. This position is exempt and employee is eligible for the Foundation’s competitive health and benefits plan:
