Job Description

The Operations Director provides strategic leadership for warehouse and volunteer center operations, prioritizing safety and compliance with food safety protocols. Responsibilities include managing product receiving, storage, distribution, inventory management, and organizing efficient pick-up and delivery routes while ensuring a secure warehouse environment.

The ideal candidate must exhibit strong adaptability and thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities frequently evolve.

Oversees Logistics and Facilities Manager, Compliance and Warehouse Manager and Food Sourcing Coordinator and Produce/Food Rescue Program, Delivery Program, Warehouse distribution program, and Inventory Management.

Directs day-to-day department activities that implement food sourcing programs that meet organizational goals and the organization's policies and ensure that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.

Participates and creates along with the Food Management Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Executive Director, and other members of the management team in the formulation and execution of strategic plans, structure, and processes necessary to manage the organization's current activities and its projected growth. Provides staff leadership to the Food Management Committee of the board in partnership with Food Operations and Agency Relations Directors.

Using quantifiable metrics and management expertise performs departmental/programmatic audits to determine cost benefit as well as demand and service capability. Ensure that the organization has effective management and optimal production. Recommends changes as necessary to improve operations or enhance service.

In partnership with appropriate management staff, coordinates efforts to evaluate the results of each area of operations and systematically reports these results to the executive director and the program committee of the board of directors.

· Develop and install procedures and controls to promote communication and facilitate information flow within the organization.

· Establishes operating policies consistent with the executive director's broad policies and objectives and ensures their execution.

· Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations. Responsible for compliance with Feeding America’s Guidelines and leadership of annual FA monitoring visits.

· Management of the Food bank's relationship and evaluation of the Tennessee Valley food cluster.

· Serves as point person for matters related to the construction of a new food distribution facility and oversees the work of the project manager as it relates to building materials, progress, legal issues, and City and County requirements. Serves as the staff liaison for the construction committee.

· Coordinates efforts of appropriate staff in planning for necessary organizational and programmatic changes related to operating in a more comprehensive facility.

Application qualifications

Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or fifth-year college or university program certificate. Six to Eight years of direct operational management experience is required (in distribution preferred) with at least the same number of years of supervisory experience. Strong skills and substantial experience working with integrated inventory/accounting software to analyze and forecast operational and program performance.

We have an average of 1 million pounds of food on hand each month. This allows us to provide food to the 40,000 people experiencing food insecurity in our eight-county region.

Capacity
Our warehouse can accommodate six delivery trucks at a time, making donations and deliveries quick and easy.
