Job Description

The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School religion teacher to begin in August 2025. Qualified applicants should be familiar with the developmental progression of lower school children and be able to teach grades K-5.

We are seeking educators who demonstrate a growth mindset, responsive teaching practices, and a strong understanding of child development; teachers who are curious, collaborative, and have a deep sense of agency that will add value to the Lower School community.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out all instructional responsibilities associated with assigned K-5 classes in order to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s mission and core values
  • Cultivates a classroom culture that facilitates student voice, compassion for others, and a whole-child approach
  • Purposefully design religious studies curriculum, instruction, and assessment in order to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, etc.)
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the department and/or grade level on curriculum development
  • Fosters a positive parent-school partnership with Lovett families
  • Acts as an ambassador of Lovett’s Episcopal School tradition at all times
  • Assists LS Chaplain in coordination of student vestry, planning and execution of Lower School chapel services, coordination of Lower School participation in all-school chapel services, and addressing pastoral care needs of students, parents, faculty, and staff.  
  • Participates in department, faculty, team, and grade-level meetings as required
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g. admission open house, observations, and interviews)

 

Job Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, a master's degree (MDiv, MTS, MA in a related field) is preferred
- Three years of teaching and classroom experience in elementary grades, religious studies is required
- Ability to develop a comprehensive, spiraling religious studies curriculum
- Intimate knowledge of the Bible is required, knowledge of other faiths preferred
- A passion for working with young children
- The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
- A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional -
development during the school year and summer
- Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
- Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
- Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance
