Job Description

The Lovett School, an independent K-12 day school in Atlanta, GA, seeks a Lower School Chaplain to begin in August 2025. Qualified applicants should be familiar with the developmental progression of children and have a background in youth ministry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out all responsibilities associated with the chaplaincy in order to engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s core values, mission, and whole child education model including:
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities that may occur on weekends and evenings (e.g. admission open house, observations, and interviews)
  • Serves on the all-school chaplaincy team and a divisional Administrative Team
  • Provides immediate and ongoing emotional and spiritual support to the Lovett community in times of hardship or loss

Job Requirements
Position Requirements:

- Master’s degree in Divinity, Religious Studies, or related field
- Children/youth ministry background is preferred but not required
- Ordination status is flexible
- Experience designing and leading worship services
- A love of working with young people and a willingness to engage them as whole students, balancing care and compassion with challenge and
accountability
- Socially skilled as an inviting gatherer who welcomes but does not obligate, organizes but does not control, is inclusive and sensitive
- Can navigate discussions with those of different belief systems with warmth and calm
- Must be able to function effectively and inclusively in a school environment while also exercising sound judgment in controlling disruptive and
destructive influences that could fragment the community
- The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond the classroom
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
- A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional
development during the school year and summer
- Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
- Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
- Ethical behavior, professionalism, and regular and reliable attendance
