This internship will be located at 75 5th Street, Atlanta, GA 30308 and activities will primarily focus on the metro Atlanta region with some support of statewide programs and projects. 

 

The successful candidate will gain exposure to Georgia Power’s economic development teams, ecosystems, partners, and best practices. Primary work will focus on metro-Atlanta economic development activities but will also include support of statewide programs that are run by the Georgia Power Regional Economic team. The student’s work plan, learning targets, skill levels and proficiencies will increase over the course of the internship. Students will also be exposed to the operations of a large utility business, learn about key issues in the energy industry, including renewable and nuclear energy, gain practical work experience and obtain potential developmental opportunities within Southern Company or across the metro Atlanta economic development ecosystem. 

 

Responsibilities

Support existing industry activities including meeting with companies to understand needs and connect with regional partners as well as Georgia Power products and services; 

Assist team with tracking and completing project records, weekly highlights, and budgeting activities; 

Assist team with documenting key programs and activities for knowledge transfer; 

Support team in planning and preparing statewide economic development programs and projects including: Georgia Academy for Economic Development, CREATE, PM 101, Women in Economic Development, and others as needed; 

Support storytelling and social media activities for team in collaboration with marketing team; 

Assist with supporting team in planning and conducting team meetings including agenda preparation, notetaking, and follow up; 

Attend key regional partnership meetings to support regional partners on behalf of Georgia Power and share insights and follow up; 

Support team facilitations and strategic planning with intake meetings, notetaking, and follow up; 

Support the identification and pilot of tools to help advance the team strategically and leveraging technology to improve efficiency and increase value to internal and external partners. 

 

Qualifications 

Pursuing a degree (bachelor or masters) with a minimum 3.0 GPA; 

Must be able to work one full year at the time of hire with a 35-40 hour work week requiring face to face presence with flexibility for remote work; 

Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication (oral & written) skills; 

Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office & Excel is required. Access is a plus; 

Attention to detail, highly organized with consistent follow up and follow through; 

Works well on a team; 

Must pass background screening prior to employment; 

Must pass drug (including nicotine) test each semester; 

Interest or relevant experience in economic development a plus; 

Must show proof of citizenship or have appropriate approvals to work in the United States
