Job Description

Institute programming and education to ensure the spiritual growth and development of families, children, and youth. Provide oversight and vision for Children’s and Youth programs in all aspects and develop new programming and ministry opportunities for families to grow and strengthen. Participate and contribute as an active member of Skidaway Island Methodist Church and work to further the church’s ministries to our families and expand the mission and outreach to families in the community.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in ministry or education

Proven ability to lead a department

3-5 years experience in ministry with children, youth, and families

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

Effective communication skills with children, youth, and their parents

Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a team of leaders, be a team player, develop and oversee a budget, and coordinate with church staff to achieve the mission of the church

Strong technology proficiency and social media skills

Personal Characteristics & Qualifications

Growing relationship with Jesus

Emotional maturity

Good interpersonal communication skills

Additional Job Details
  • Supervise Children’s Director and Youth Director to create cohesion and overarching plan for ministry to children and youth. Oversight will include vision planning, goal setting and mentoring, as well as involvement with job/performance review and budget oversight. 

  • Collaborate with the Children’s Director to implement Children’s Church age-level curriculum and programming and lead/teach as needed in Children’s Church. Collaborate with the Children’s Director to offer mission opportunities for our children to engage in service to others. Work with the Children’s Director in planning and implementing special occasions, seasonal events, and summer camp opportunities. Provide leadership as needed in all aspects of Children’s Ministry.

  • Collaborate with Youth Director to create and oversee youth curriculum and programs for Middle School and High School; Co-create and oversee Youth Sunday Night Worship, Fellowship and Small Group programs; collaborate with Youth Director on Confirmation Ministry; Collaborate with Youth Director on bi-annual retreats, mission opportunities/trips, etc. 

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive Family Ministry program to deepen relationships in the home and to provide connectional opportunities for families to interact with one another. Coordinate regular Fellowship Events for the whole family. Coordinate regular opportunities for families to engage with hands-on service projects. Provide resources for families to deepen their faith in the home by offering devotional material, video resources, guest speakers, etc. 

  • Assist Children’s and Youth Directors in Volunteer Recruitment and Training. 

  • Seek out and implement impactful ways to be a presence and representation of SIMC in the greater Skidaway and Savannah community and connect with the Children, Youth, and families outside of the Church walls by attending sporting events, concerts, and special occasions for our children, youth and families. 

Congregational Responsibilities

  • Missions and Outreach Ministry: plan opportunities for children, youth and families to engage with mission opportunities. Participate in international mission trips with youth. Develop additional community service opportunities. 

  • Support Adult Sunday School Ministry through collaboration with the Executive Pastor in planning and facilitating young/middle adult and/or parenting studies.  

  • Collaborate with Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor to create small groups for our young adults/parents.  

  • Evangelism: support Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor in evangelism efforts in the Church and community, specifically as it relates to families by engaging with visiting families as well as reaching out to potential members of the church. 

  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings, Children’s Committee meetings, Youth Committee meetings and host collaborative Children/Youth staff/visioning meetings as needed.
