Job Summary:
The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for WMCG in Augusta, GA, will lead, shape and deliver experiences, programs, and results through the direction of Business Resource Groups (BRG’s) and Inclusion Councils (IC’s).
The Director will work with across the organization to create and translate our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy culture to provide impactful business results through BRG’s and IC’s. The Director will work closely with other DEI Practitioners on our team and align initiatives with business strategies & metrics focusing on people, policies, and practices that strengthen belonging, inclusion, and equity opportunities. The Director will be a team-oriented and collaborative leader with a passion for action and a results-oriented mind-set. Critical thinking, strong communication, and the ability to thrive under pressure and change are paramount.
This role requires strong executive presence and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in a complex and matrixed environment. Additionally, it requires 3 years of supervisory experience with related scope. This role will be instrumental in the design, enhancement, and delivery of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging best in class experiences at Wellstar Health System.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Strategic Lead
Lead, support, manage, and develop Business Resources Groups and Inclusion Council communities with Wellstar Health System that advance our diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities within Wellstar. Define clear BRG and Inclusion Council goals with key deliverables, milestone dates, and roadmap to achieve these goals. Provide frequent updates, identify, and communicate risks and adjustment needs to ensure BRG and IC commitments are achieved. Develop strategic, trusted relationship with BRG’s and IC Executive Sponsors and leaders to align work to DEI and overall system goals. Provide oversight of assigned ODEI consultant and project managers in the data to day operations for BRG’s and IC.
Continuous Improvement
Design and implement methods which increase engagement and participation in DEI initiatives through BRG’s and Inclusion Councils. Align BRG’s and IC’s to DEI business strategies that focus on workforce, marketplace, and community impacts. Researches, benchmarks, develops, and delivers innovative inclusive programs that align with business objectives and drives best in class strategies. Evaluates and analyzes feedback measures on the effectiveness and impact of program and processes on systemwide DEI goals. Uses quantitative and qualitative measures to comprehensively report DEI outcome and change management opportunities. Maintains knowledge of accessibility and diversity related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Cultural Communications Broker
Skilled at facilitating presentations, conversations, and dialogue on diversity and equity related content. Provide trusted thought leadership on inclusive and equitable initiatives. Skilled communicator that can succinctly communicate complex DEI issues and practices across a wide continuum of stakeholders. Engages in consistent communication channels with key stakeholders and system partners to ensure shared language and understanding of DEI imperatives. Build relationships and execute programing with internal team and external organizations focused on empowering unrepresented and marginalized communities.
Budget Management
Manage budget for assigned programs/projects, ensuring expenditures are within established parameters and emphasize cost efficiencies.
Is a financial solvent steward of daily and long-term strategic management assets within the department.
Partners with DEI leadership to ensure that financial receipts/expenses are properly secured, logged, and managed through the budget lifecycle.
Trust/Engagement
Builds a culture of trust and engagement as reflected in the Great Place to Work Trust Index Survey at a direct report, workgroup and hospital/entity level. Holds leaders accountable for behaviors that create trust and engagement. Performs all duties and responsibilities of this position in a manner that reflects the values of WellStar.
Maintains and strengthens relationships with physicians and assures their involvement in developing systems to assure the growth of the service and the cost effective delivery of quality patient care in a manner that fosters patient and employee satisfaction.

Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in business or related field - REQUIRED
Masters degree in business or related field - Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
Licensure/Certification: Certified Diversity and Inclusion Professional - preferred
Required Minimum Experience:
5 years minimum experience leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in mid to large size organizations
Required Minimum Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years diversity, equity, and inclusion experience, designing, executing and reporting on DE&I programs
- Demonstrated history of designing and implementing BRG's and IC's driven signature programs that drive impact across various entitles and job functions.
- History of project/program management skills with demonstrated pro-active, innovative thought-leadership, and creativity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Experience with facilitation and internal/external presenting of DEI practices.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
