Atlanta Beltline, Inc. is the official implementation agency for the Atlanta Beltline, the 22-mile rail-to-trail conversion that’s one of the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment programs in the United States. Its vision is to be the catalyst for making Atlanta a global beacon for equitable, inclusive and sustainable city life. The Atlanta Beltline is building a more socially and economically resilient Atlanta with our partner organizations and host communities through job creation, inclusive transportation systems, affordable housing and public spaces for all.

 

Reporting to the marketing communications manager, the communications intern is an integral support position that will play a critical role in telling the story of the Atlanta Beltline. He/she/they will work closely with all members of the communications team and key 3rd party vendors. Their duties might include helping design and create visual content, such as social media and blog posts or videos, fulfilling inbound media research requests, and helping plan and run events. The person in this role must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will be highly organized and efficient, able to prioritize and multi-task, and thrive in an environment characterized by significant growth, diversity, and change.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Draft blog posts, press releases, and other written communications. 
  • Support communications team with social media strategy execution, including creating content. 
  • Coordinate photo and video projects by helping identify interviewees/subjects and scheduling with consultants. 
  • Assist producing and editing website content ensuring accuracy, consistency and cohesiveness to ensure the Atlanta Beltline’s online presence is current, informative and concise. 
  • Assist in managing the library of photos and b-roll for media and other requestors. 
  • Assist with logistics, runs of show, promotions, website updates, and more as related to events.  
  • Assist with creating presentations for senior leadership.
  • Work with communications team to maintain and update media contact lists in Salesforce. 
  • Assist with research projects and requests.
  • Support the communications department in a wide variety of day-to-day tasks and requests. 

 

EDUCATION:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited degree program majoring communications, marketing, PR, journalism, or a related field is required. Minimum 3.0 GPA (in major).

  • Qualities of professionalism, diplomacy, flexibility and composure to adapt to a variety of situations.
  • Have a creative design eye and ability to deliver curated content (text, image and video).
  • Demonstrable ability to execute multiple projects and prioritize demands within given deadlines.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms is required.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment; must be versatile and a self-starter; able to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Enthusiastic go-getter who is willing and able to attend in-person and virtual community events and meetings.
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data and information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Experience using Asana (or other project management tool), Sprout Social, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Google Analytics, HTML/CSS, WordPress and/or Salesforce are helpful, but not required.
  • Commitment to promoting the Vison, Mission and Core Values of ABI while fostering a collegial work environment.
  • At least a basic knowledge of one or more of the disciplines covered by the Atlanta Beltline—e.g., urban planning, greenspace development, transportation, affordable housing and community development issues--is preferred.
  • Understanding of the impacts of institutional and systemic barriers on marginalized communities and a commitment to integrating equity and inclusion throughout all facets of your work
