Job Details:
The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life and Administration at Mercer University is a full-time, exempt position responsible for leading the housing and residence life operations on both the Atlanta and Macon campuses.
Responsibilities:
This position oversees the Housing and Residence Life administrative functions, supervises Area Coordinators and Assistant Directors, and coordinates key aspects of residence life such as marketing, student conduct, and housing assignments. The Associate Director works closely with the Director of Housing and Residence Life to ensure policies and procedures are implemented effectively, supporting a safe and engaging on-campus living environment.
Duties include:
Supervision and Staff Development
• Supervise and mentor Area Coordinators on the Atlanta campus and Assistant Directors on the Macon campus.
• Provide leadership and development for Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, and other Housing and Residence Life staff members.
• Oversee staff recruitment, training, and ongoing professional development initiatives to ensure all team members can effectively support students.
• Facilitate regular meetings and training sessions for Housing and Residence Life staff to ensure consistent and efficient campus communication and operations.
Housing Assignments and Administrative Oversight
• Manage and coordinate the housing assignments process, including contracts, appeals, and occupancy planning.
• Provide leadership for marketing and advertising initiatives to promote on-campus housing and maximize occupancy rates.
• Support the Conference Housing operation through planning, coordination, and administrative oversight.
• Ensure smooth administration of the Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary, fostering student engagement and leadership development within the residence halls.
Student Conduct and Title IX Coordination
• Assist with Title IX investigations and participate in University Conduct Hearings as needed.
• Provide crisis response and management for residence life incidents, ensuring student safety and coordinating with university resources as necessary.
• Collaborate with other university offices to manage and resolve student conduct cases involving residence hall residents.
Crisis Management and Emergency Response
• Coordinate services and responses to campus emergencies and crises, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
• Act as a primary emergency responder, providing support and leadership during incidents impacting the residence halls.
• Implement and maintain policies for crisis intervention, working with campus security, counseling, and student support services.
Housing Marketing and Occupancy Management
• Provide leadership in housing marketing efforts, developing strategies for advertising and promoting on-campus living.
• Assist with occupancy management, analyzing data to improve housing processes and maximize occupancy on both the Atlanta and Macon campuses.
• Collaborate with university marketing teams to ensure cohesive branding and communication for Housing and Residence Life.
Qualifications:
A master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field and five years of progressive experience in Housing and Residence Life, including supervisory experience.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Direct supervision of all aspects of the Housing & Residence Life program designed to promote a residential environment conducive to students' positive academic, social, psychological, and physical development.

Serve with the Director and Assistant Director(s) as a member of the central management team in devising, executing, and evaluating departmental goals, policies, organization, and programs.

Assist with the supervision of the housing assignment/contracts and appeals process.

General understanding and appreciation for a student development-based approach/theory.

Excellent collaboration skills coupled with the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.

Ability to see the “big picture.”

Must be self-motivated.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing when dealing with students and other stakeholders.

Ability to work with Greek organizations.

Ability to use various computer programs (Campus Vue, Transact, etc.).

Ability to work non-traditional hours, i.e. nights and weekends when required.
