Job Description

The Associate Director of Global Education plays a pivotal role in supporting the Director of Global Education in the strategic planning, coordination, and implementation of global education initiatives at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School (HIES). The Associate Director collaborates closely with the Director of Global Education to advance the school’s commitment to fostering intercultural understanding, global citizenship, and ethical leadership among students and faculty.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Program Administration and Teaching:

  • Oversee the administration and coordination of specific programmatic areas, chiefly the Upper School Program for Global Citizenship (PGC) and Global programming for Upper School.
  • Teach a course load of at least three sections.
  • Support the coordination of administration logistics for travel, cultural exchanges, homestays, and global service-learning initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing the collection and submission of required paperwork and payments and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and risk management procedures.
  • Be involved in the school community at large, including sponsoring the Round Square Ambassadors Club to develop both in-person and virtual cultural exchanges and collaborations in the Upper School and help mentor student leaders within global programs.

Planning and Program Development:

  • Assist with the organization and facilitation of global education events, workshops, and activities within the division, ensuring smooth execution and meaningful student and faculty participation.
  • Work with Upper School faculty to integrate global perspectives, themes, and content into existing curricula across subject areas, fostering interdisciplinary learning and cross-cultural competency development.
  • Collaborate with the Global Program Coordinators in other divisions and various groups including the Office for Multicultural Affairs.
  • Support the Director of Global Education to contribute to the design and refinement of global education curricula, co-curricular activities, and experiential learning opportunities across all grade levels.

External Partnerships and Network Engagement:

  • Work to maintain relationships with international partners, including Round Square member schools, to expand opportunities for student exchanges, collaborative projects, and cultural immersion experiences.

Administrative Support and Leadership:

  • Represent the Department of Global Education with the Director is unavailable.
  • Support the Director of Global Education in data collection and reporting related to global initiatives, including annual evaluations of programs, student feedback, and participation metrics.
  • Obtain your notary certification/designation for travel forms.
  • This role will require working outside of school hours and may require travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Global Education or school leadership in alignment with the mission and strategic goals of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education, international relations, or a related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching Upper School. Willingness to attend an Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) for AP Seminar or existing qualifications to teach AP Seminar, with an emphasis on global issues.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in global education leadership or program management, preferably in a K-12 educational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum design, experiential learning, and intercultural competency development.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with budget management, project coordination, and strategic planning.
  • Interest in continued professional learning in global education, intercultural communication, and/or curriculum innovation.

The Associate Director of Global Education is a 10-month position that will report to the Director of Global Education. The position will include administration and teaching with the Associate Director teaching at least three classes in the Program for Global Citizenship, grades 6-12 social studies, or other departments as deemed appropriate.
