Children’s Museum of Atlanta is seeking a passionate and dynamic Assistant Director of School and Outreach to join our team! In this role, you will play a key part in expanding the Museum’s impact by developing and strengthening relationships with schools, educators, and community organizations. You will oversee outreach initiatives and school programs that bring the power of play-based learning to children across Atlanta, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all. Primary role: Reporting to the Director of Exhibits & Education, the Assistant Director of School and Outreach leads the development, management, and expansion of school programs and outreach initiatives. This role is integral to the Museum’s mission, supervising the School and Outreach team. This position is full time, exempt, with a annualized salary of $57k-$61k depending on experience.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Management
- Supervise, mentor, and support the School and Outreach team.
- Refine short- and long-term goals for school field trips and outreach programming.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, teachers, and outreach program partners.
- Assess, refine, and expand school and outreach programs based on data and feedback from evaluations.
- Design and coordinate programming with community partners.
- Represent the museum at relevant neighborhood and community meetings.
- Oversee program budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and financial sustainability.
School & Outreach Program Development:
- Work closely and collaborate with the Guest Experience team to create and train museum educators.
- Ensure CMA’s programming and field trips meet the needs of students with special needs, their families, and educators.
- Develop and support the creation of new outreach programs.
- Evaluate program effectiveness to guide improvement of program impact.
- Foster partnerships with schools, educational organizations, and community-based groups.
Learning Materials Development:
- Oversee the creation, production, and distribution of educational resources.
- Evaluate material effectiveness and implement necessary improvements.
Educator & Caregiver Training:
- Partner with local education organizations to develop training programs for early childhood and elementary educators.
- Design and lead workshops for adult caregivers of children ages 0-5.
- Measure and refine training effectiveness based on participant feedback.

Skills:
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Exceptional organizational skills with experience managing budgets.
- Deep understanding of informal education methodologies and trends.
- Strong teaching skills with knowledge of childhood developmental stages.
- Experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
- Cultural competence and experience serving diverse communities.
- Customer-focused mindset with a dynamic and engaging personality.
- Ability to adapt and problem-solve in fast-paced environments.
- Commitment to a “Learn through Play” philosophy.
- Familiarity with museums and nonprofit operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- 3-5 years of supervisory/leadership experience
- 3-5 years of demonstrated success in education, and/or museum program development
- Proven ability to design lesson plans for early childhood and/or early elementary educational programming.
- Experience in informal education, arts and humanities, sciences, or early childhood development.
