Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), the Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life will work to further the development and vision of the fraternity and sorority community at the University of West Georgia. With 26 active organizations belonging to four councils, the successful candidate will help bring the organizations together through programs, leadership, and developmental opportunities that align with the institutional priorities. The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management and oversight with health, safety, and risk management within the fraternity and sorority life community as the management efforts focused on programmatic and communal growth. This position provides leadership in developing and implementing FSL programming and initiatives to promote a safe and supportive fraternal experience for the community members. The Assistant Director provides direct advisement of FSL governing councils and serves as a liaison between the university, chapters, alumni, and inter/national organizations and internally with university staff and offices. provides direct advisement of FSL governing councils and serves as a liaison between the university, chapters, alumni, and inter/national organizations and internally with university staff and offices. The work environment is a center of fraternity and sorority for the campus. As such, it involves a fast pace, and daily contact with students, faculty, staff, and the public. The environment consists of balancing different priorities and a quick response to unexpected situations.

Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety, Risk Management and Coaching - 
Coach chapters across all four governing councils, including regular meetings with chapter risk managers, event planners, and accountability officers. Review and discuss chapter health and safety plans and event registrations. Conduct pre-event walk-throughs and post-event meetings with chapter leadership to enhance the health, safety, and success of each registered event. Participate in community on-site event monitoring and assessment program. Analyze new member survey responses and conduct interviews with students about their new member education/intake experience. Facilitate health, safety, and event planning of educational programs and training. Serves as a council advisor to two of the four FSL governing councils and their respective executive boards, standards boards, recruitment processes, and related committees and programs in collaboration with other FSL staff. Advise and coordinate the FSL Programming Board Directors to create and execute efforts to bring together the FSL community.  Acts as a liaison with chapter advisors and all national organizations and maintains active communication, including high levels of public contact with media representatives, policies, national fraternity/sorority representatives, parents, alumni, faculty, and university administration.

2. Administrative - 
Development of education and efforts focused on community growth and retention for organizations,councils, and FSL. Responsible for branding and visibility of FSL
through campus programming, social media, and print marketing. Facilitate administrative responsibilities to maintain University required records (roster management, intake, recruitment,
budget management, and program assessment, etc.). Supervision of graduate assistants.

3. Programming and Training Development - 
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programmatic initiatives, including training and other educational opportunities,as well as their governing councils focusing on but not limited to scholarship, service, leadership development, risk management, alcohol and drug education, and new member development. Assist in the execution of events and programs for the Office Fraternity & Sorority Life, not limited to Homecoming, Greek Week, Tailgate, Executive Leadership Retreats, New Member Institute, etc. -Serve on university committees as needed.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelors Degree

Required Experience
Bachelors degree and two (2) years of professional or graduate experience in fraternity and sorority life or student engagement activities. Supervisory abilities and skills; effective written and
oral communication skills; ability to work in crisis situations; sensitivity to both individuals and groups; knowledge of group dynamics and organizational development; develop instructional programs. -Ability to utilize independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making skills. -Experience working with a diverse population; excellent writing and public speaking skills. Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating events.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree

Preferred Experience
Masters Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field. Three (3) years of full-time experience in Higher Education and Fraternity and Sorority Life. -Knowledge of student development theory, the needs of fraternity and sorority students, organization advising, program planning and budgeting. Experience with program development and management and experience hiring, training, and supervising college students. -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Affiliation within the Interfraternity Council, National Panhellenic Conference, National Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, National APIDA Panhellenic Council, or National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Inc.

Proposed Salary

$24.30 - $26.27 Hourly. Paid on Bi-Weekly Basis.
