Job Summary
Multi-faceted role that coaches students one-on-one and in groups with a particular focus on international students; coordinates career development programs and workshops as part of the Inclusion Initiatives team; and fosters relationships with key campus partners and/or external stakeholders. Supervises paraprofessional student staff who deliver peer-to-peer services, workshops, and programs. Part of a collaborative and innovative team committed to career development and success of all Illinois students.
Duties & Responsibilities
Direct Service to Students (50%)
• Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and planning, employment/internship search, and graduate or professional school preparation and application
• Develop and implement programs to meet the career development needs of international students, including the Career Certificate - International Students (CC-I) program
• Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Director for Inclusion Initiatives to develop and implement programs and resources specifically to assist international students with career exploration and search strategies for internships and employment in the US, in their home countries, and elsewhere in the world
• Develop and implement outreach efforts to international students and international student organizations and groups
Outreach and Engagement with Key Stakeholders (25%)
• Develop, maintain, and actively cultivate relationships with campus partners and other stakeholders who contribute to career development services and programs
• Deploy outreach strategies to engage underserved or marginalized students within our international student population
• Contribute to the development and implementation of collaborative career development initiatives in partnership with the broader career services, advising, or student support community at Illinois
Supervision, Administration and Management (25%)
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise paraprofessional student staff who deliver peer-to-peer services, workshops, and programs
• Assess, analyze, and report on engagement and impact of services and programs and facilitate continuous improvement
• Contribute to the design, creation, and maintenance of print and online resources
• Create and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences, including parents, campus partners and external colleagues about The Career Center
• Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees
• Participate in professional development activities and associations, as well as participate in continual training to stay up to date on immigration and other topics related to international students
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Education Psychology, Counseling, Training and Development, or a field related to the position
• One year of training and/or work experience in student programming or student career development in an academic environment
• Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating educational programs, workshops, and/or delivering public presentations
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations and working collaboratively in a team environment
(Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology, Education Psychology, Counseling, Training and Development, or a field related to the position
• Educational background in counseling, education, student affairs, human resources or related field
• Credentialed as a career coach or counselor through one of the national career development organizations
• Fluency in another language, including but not limited to Mandarin, Korean, or Hindi
• Knowledge of international and/or cross-cultural issues relevant to international students
• Experience in higher education, career coaching/advising, and/or working with college students
• Experience that demonstrates knowledge of student visas, work authorization, and international employment practices
• Experience that demonstrates understanding of career and student development theory and practice
• Experience developing and maintaining professional relationships
• Experience as an international student on a student visa in the United States
• Experience of having lived and/or worked outside of the United States

• Ability to build and sustain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/28/2025. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $63,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
