Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Global Education is a professional leadership position in the Global Education unit of the Office of Global Engagement at the University of Georgia.
The Assistant Director serves UGA students, faculty, staff, and administrators in matters related to education abroad. Responsibilities of the position include the creation of experiences, program promotion, managing student enrollment, budgets, contracts and agreements, and reporting to different stakeholders. Included in the portfolio of the Assistant Director is oversight of international independent experiences, special initiatives, and student learning outcomes assessment. The position focuses especially on promoting study abroad to a variety of student populations. The position also supports and supervises graduate assistant and other student staff. In addition to providing support to the advising team, the Assistant Director contributes to all student-facing programming, including advising services, pre-departure orientation, and reentry programming. The Assistant Director serves on the office’s emergency response team and is a part of an on-call rotation system to respond to emergencies.
The Assistant Director for Global Education reports to the Director of Global Education. While the Assistant Director works with significant autonomy and makes decisions independently, they also maintains communication with the Director and consults on unique situations as they arise, taking a strong team orientation to work responsibilities.

Advisement and Student Support:
Promotes global education with the goal of increasing the total number of students who study abroad on both long- and short-term programs. Focus of this position is on a variety of student populations for study abroad. To serve these populations, the position interacts with academic departments to identify appropriate global experiences and promote major-specific opportunities for students.
Provides accurate information and developmental advising services to students regarding all aspects of global education experiences, including scholarship opportunities. Creates equitable advising practices that foster inclusive excellence. Maintains and updates advising materials for a variety of student populations. Expands outreach advising to a variety of student populations of in coordination with the education abroad advising team. Explains and enforces policies.
Manages application approvals and ensures completion of application components including orientation, conduct review, and other requirements. Provides administrative support for outgoing education abroad applicants and coordinates course registration processes.
Contributes to the content development of student programming, including pre-departure orientation and re-entry initiatives, workshops, presentations, and programming on topics related to global education in general and about international independent experiences in particular. Organizes and leads student workshops and panels addressing cultural competence and inclusive excellence in partnership with colleagues across the university.

Independent Experiences and Special Initiatives:
This position is the main liaison between OGE and UGA academic departments or third-party entities which organize and support student global independent experiences (for example, internships, research, and job shadowing). The position informs UGA departments and third-party providers of UGA policies regarding international travel and global independent experiences.
Facilitates establishment and management of international independent experiences, focusing on cohort for-credit opportunities, and organizes recruitment and placement efforts related to these experiences. Maintains an independent experience budget template. Reviews independent experiences program budgets, prepares information for student billing.
In consultation with the Director, identifies and facilitates implementation of special initiatives to further UGA internationalization and strategic plan goals. Supports curriculum integration initiatives as needed, including outreach to departments, development of materials, and research related to identifying overseas program and UGA curriculum fit. Oversees all aspects of global education certificates and classroom presentations.
Designs and conducts training for faculty and staff to promote independent international experiences and special initiatives. In consultation with the Director, provides issue resolution for unique situations encountered.

Administrative Support:
Provides education abroad administrative support to students, programs, and academic departments; acts as a liaison with student service offices. Coordinates with campus partners (Registrar’s Office, Bursar’s Office, Division of Academic Enhancement, Experiential Learning, Financial Aid, Student Engagement, and others), as needed.
Supervises Graduate Assistant and other students personnel.
Supports education abroad at UGA by conceiving, planning, executing and assessing projects, student learning outcomes, and program evaluations across all global education initiatives. Works with the core advising team and the Database Manager on tracking visitor flow and access to Global Education services.
Generates reports, including the annual Global Engagement Report, and updates program information.
Participates in conducting the institutional and national scholarship processes.
Participates in meetings, workshops and/or trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

Leads the office in developing resources and programming for parents or guardians of students participating in global education programs. Creates and maintains online resources that inform families and allow them to effectively support their students in every phase of the global education process.

Team Management and Emergency Response:
Manages advising schedules, ongoing training, and regular advisor group meetings. Assists the Director in supporting the professional development of staff. Directly supervises assignments of the Graduate Assistant and other student staff. Responsible for providing ongoing management, oversight, training, coaching, and performance reviews of assigned direct reports.
Serves on the office’s emergency response team and assists the office in mitigating risk with a focus on student health and safety. Assists with on-call rotation system to respond to emergencies outside of regular business hours, particularly during the peak times of the year(e.g. Spring Break, Summer).

Oversees contract and MOU management and administration. Serves as the contract administrator for Global Education. Coordinates contract paperwork for student global experiences with campus partners (academic departments, Legal, Procurement, and International Initiatives).
