Job Description

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a passionate, purpose driven, systems thinker with a deep understanding of Communication, Affordable Housing and Equity to fill the role of Advancing Black Homeownership (ABH) Exhibit Specialist within the organization’s Housing and Community Strategy (HCS) team. The HCS team works with Habitat for Humanity local offices across the United States primarily through thought partnership, capacity building and investments in strategic programs. The team’s efforts are grounded in social justice principles and focused on equitable outcomes. The HCS team focuses on identifying, investing in and scaling innovative approaches to affordable housing, economic mobility and neighborhood development.

The ABH Exhibit Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert on racial disparities and injustice in the United States, including past and current discriminatory policies and practices, historic disinvestment, wealth extraction, and solutions that drive toward more equitable and just wealth building for Black individuals and households. This person will be responsible for managing the ABH Exhibit, which is a physical display, as well as an accompanying website, that covers historic events and personal stories of people impacted by housing discrimination. Management of this exhibit includes developing and managing an annual budget; securing resources; booking event requests; overseeing logistics; traveling to the events; delivering educational and awareness activities on site; monitoring and evaluating the Exhibit’s impact; and maintaining periodic content refreshes to both the physical exhibit and website.

This 1-year opportunity is 100% remote within the U.S.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage ABH Exhibit schedule and bookings; research events, submit event proposals for aligned conferences, and manage acceptances to ensure a full annual schedule without conflicts. (10%)
• Develop budget for travel, shipping, maintenance, and other costs; develop financial forecasts and monitor expenses to prevent overages. (10%)
• Partner with Resource Development to identify sponsors and funding sources, develop cultivation and solicitation materials, and secure financial resources. (10%)
• Oversee management and coordination of logistics, including shipping arrangements, onsite receival and set up, tear down, and storage between events. (10%)
• Travel to events and serve as subject matter expert on ABH Exhibit content; develop strategies and tactics that pull people toward the Exhibit; answer attendees’ questions and engage in meaningful conversations to increase general awareness and education, as well as inspire toward action. (30%)
• Work with Outcomes Measurement staff to develop monitoring and evaluation methodologies that connect ABH Exhibit activities to the overarching ABH and HCS strategies; implement onsite and offsite tracking as appropriate; periodically report out on results to ABH and HCS leadership. (10%)
• Manage content refreshes on a semi-annual basis; maintain a list of errors within the Exhibit or website for correction; gather and form recommendations on additional historic events, stories, or quotes to include in the Exhibit from individual’s interactions or feedback. (10%)
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in African American or Black Studies, History, Political Science, Sociology, or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience.

• Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of and commitment to racial justice, other forms of equity, and systems level transformation.
• Knowledge of MS software, internet & basic office equipment.

Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):
• Experience managing an annual schedule with multiple conferences or events, including oversight of logistics.
• Experience with Habitat for Humanity or other federated or nonprofit background.
• Affordable housing background.
• Ability to think creatively and design engaging and powerful content.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance. For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $22.44 per hour to $26.39 per hour.

Staff hired on a hybrid basis in the United States near an HFHI office location (Atlanta, Georgia / Washington, DC and Americus, GA), are required to report to the office on Tuesdays.
