Role: Senior Director of Christian Witness 

Location: Federal Way, WA, or Washington, D.C. strongly preferred; remote considered

Reports to: Senior Director of Program Quality

Required Experience: Master’s degree in theology, international development or related field required. A minimum of ten years of international experience, travel, and work in developing contexts, with at least two years living internationally. Experience must include at least 5 years of staff management experience. Must bring strong relational and networking skills, demonstrated ability to supervise teams, and significant experience engaging with donors and fundraisers.

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. for any employer.

Travel: Up to 30% of the time both in domestic and international development contexts. 

Estimated Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00

 

The Job

World Vision is looking for a Senior Director to support our International Programs and the wider WVUS office with spiritual integration both in the field and at HQ. This individual will develop and lead World Vision US’ (WVUS) engagement in the Faith in Development sector. Approximately, 50% of their time will be focused on private non-sponsorship product management leadership and 50% of the time devoted to the broader Christian Commitment initiatives. S/he will ensure the integration of Christian Commitment in sponsorship programs and include it in core models of grant programming.

 

This individual will need to maximize resource opportunities and be able to provide Faith in Development product management, marketing leadership, and project support to enable fundraisers to deliver on the donor promise. Must be able deliver on donor promises. S/he will develop the sector strategy, business plan, and ministry product offerings that meet priority needs while ensuring field integration and alignment.

 

As a Senior Director, this individual will lead and sustain team culture, staffing, procedures, and lead the team in prayer all while facilitating an understanding of donor and field-facing requirements. S/he will support international programs and the wider WVUS office with spiritual integration both in the field and at HQ. They will help carry out the Christian organization’s mission, vision, and strategies. They will personify the ministry of World Vision by witnessing to Christ and ministering to others through life, deed, word, and sign. 

 

 

Your Responsibilities Will Include: 

 

Christian Leadership

  • Keep Christ central in individual and corporate life. Actively participate in and contribute to the spiritual disciplines of the organization (Christian conduct, devotions, chapel, prayer, worship); incorporate WV Core Values into decisions within the scope of role.
  • Anchor all WVUS programming in our Christian identity and calling. Contributing to children’s experience of God’s love in Jesus.
  • Embed Faith in Development (FiD) Models, Approaches, partnerships in public and private grants as well as WV Sponsorship programming.
  • Mobilize faith leaders.

 

Leadership

  • Coordinate and collaborate with leaders in the other programming teams to ensure that WVUS is fully engaged with the Partnership on FiD integration.
  • Hire, fire, train, counsel, evaluate, and recommend salary increases and promotions for those under direct and indirect supervision. 
  • Advise in the development of national, regional, and global FiD strategies.
  • Contribute to establishing and maintaining a team culture, staffing, standards and procedures that demonstrates mutual understanding of both donor and field-facing requirements.
  • Support integration between relevant WVUS teams and World Vision International (WVI) to ensure policies and practices are consistent and optimal. 
  • Lead prioritization and work collaboratively with WVUS stakeholders and relevant WV partners to set out joint and individual Faith in Development coordinated resources, research, share ongoing learning, and communicate to senior WVUS and WVI leadership on findings in order to strengthen the WV evidence base for FiD models, strengthen the WVUS brand, and aid in stronger revenue acquisition.  Communicate results to IPG and other WVUS senior leadership teams, and collaborate with WVI colleagues to ensure WVUS concerns remain a critical part of the overall WVI Strategy
  • Participate in the development of WVI, WVUS and departmental FiD policies as requested.

 

Relationships/Networks

  • Serve as a primary World Vision IPG representative to churches and donors on the topic of faith in development and Christian Witness.
  • Engage with donors related to the management of funding of Faith in Development Programming and initiatives: Government donor institutions in partnership with the FiD STA, foundations, private individuals, churches, and corporate donors.
  • Network with various coalitions and working groups focused on Faith in Development and Christian Discipleship.
  • Provide guidance for the team to establish collaborative relationships, networks and joint plans with other WVUS, IPG teams, WVI partners, and Support/Field/Regional Office counterparts, representing and promoting WVUS's perspective and requirements as needed to facilitate the efficient accomplishment of strategic goals and objectives with regards to our faith identity and programming
  • Provide inputs and guidance to legal with regards to our code of conduct and religious freedoms if/when questions arise.

 

Strategic Product Management Leadership

  • Develop, define, implement, and oversee a clear and compelling product management sectoral strategy to guide project, proposal, and product development activities for Faith in Development.
  • Align team plans to Our Promise 2030 Partnership Strategy, the WVUS strategy.
  • Ensure strong linkages and partnership in place with the IPG Resource Development Team, Transformational Engagement, Finance, Contracts and Field Operations to enable strong partnership and achievement of program results.

  • Oversee a team that supports the defining of product offerings, mix, and tools to promote to donors.  Go/no go decision authority for inventory creation. Collaborate closely with the Donor Services Director to ensure optimization of donor facing collateral and tools.
  • Oversee the team that supports proposal development for sector in collaboration with field partners, and resource development teams, ensuring programmatic integration and consistency with sector strategy.
  • Contribute to and partner with teams across WVUS to ensure integrated programming alignment occurs between sponsorship, government and private cash portfolios in alignment with partnership priorities.
  • Provide leadership to the relevant fundraising cross-functional campaign teams.  Provide leadership and participate in planning future multiyear major capital campaigns.
  • Lead team efforts to provide fundraising clients with the insight, training, and resources necessary to ensure that they can articulate the strategy and key benefits of WV’s work related to the sector portfolio. Participate in, as appropriate, donor facing meetings, conferences and.
  • Define programmatic strategy for integration of Christian Commitments into WVUS Sponsorship programs and grants.

 

Donor Promise Accountability and Fundraising

  • Oversee the team that determines the resource allocation for all FiD sector funds raised, in alignment with WVUS’s geographic and sector strategic intent and the donor promise.
  • Oversee FiD colleagues to ensure timely delivery of donor-facing offers and reports produced by the team Communication Officers, in compliance with agreed upon templates, standards and procedures. 
  • Work with the Sr. Manager to develop a new balanced scorecard and ensure that product performance measurements are reviewed regularly to uphold accountability. 
  • Network with public and major foundation donors, other NGOs, and industry thought leaders and practitioners to build WV's technical brand and competitiveness to acquire significant FiD program funding.  Support the TE private donor networking and engagement as described in the team planning documents. 
  • Increase the evidence base for WV core Faith in Development project models including Empowered World View, Celebrating Families and Spiritual Nurture of Children in collaboration with the E&L and FiD team.
  • Support the growth of Faith in Development funding.

 

Collaboration and Management

  • Influence and participate in WVI sector strategy development, standards development processes. 
  • Participate in events/conferences. 
  • Understand broader trends in the NGO community in the areas related to job responsibility.
  • Oversee and facilitate capacity building and standards setting for the Faith in development  sector through ensuring availability of technical assistance, financial resources, training workshops or mentoring, partnering with WVI as appropriate.
  • Oversee management of FiD multi-source portfolio of projects, budgets, and reporting.

 

Program Quality and Impact Communication

  • Support the FiD team to ensure accountability and appropriate utilization of grant management information systems so that Dashboards, reporting, and impact communications are accurate, on time, and high quality within your sector. 
  • Ensure outcomes of grant-funded programs are high-quality and high-impact by holding FiD colleagues accountable for the ongoing monitoring and the execution of mid-term and final evaluations, operations research, etc.
  • Oversee a team that reviews reports and support recommendations for best practices and apply lessons learned.
  • Represent WVUS by participating in professional associations; speaking engagements, task forces and working groups focused on Faith in Development programming and integration.

Education and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in theology, international development or related field required or relevant work experience. 
  • Work experience must include a minimum of ten years of international experience, travel, and work in a developing country, with at least two years living internationally. 
  • Experience must include at least 5 years of staff management experience. 
  • Must exhibit a demonstrated understanding of holistic ministry and cross-cultural ministry. 
  • Must have strong relational and networking skills, demonstrated ability to supervise teams, and significant experience engaging with donors and fundraisers. 
  • Preferably, extensive international and US Church ministry field experience.

 

Salary Range & Benefits: 

• WVUS Pay Grade Level: 229

• The full range for this position is $107,412.98 - 178,259.84

• The estimated hiring range is $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 a year.

• This range applies to locations with a market similar to our Washington D.C. office. A different range may apply based on your work location.
